The Southern California and Baja Mexico resort market has a history dating back more than a century, with top notch resorts like the Rosarito Beach Vacation Suites. In years past, a refuge for Hollywood celebrities who have always received special perks. Today, families are just as likely to be found at one of these five-star resorts as that celebrity couple soaking up the sun.
The warm coastal charm and appeal of this area reach out to a broader segment of the affluent timeshare market. Over the last ten years, new resorts have dotted the coast from Santa Barbara to San Diego and across the border of Mexico. Still, a great many of these resorts are older and full of culture and mystery such as in Rosarito. These Urban resorts--often more limited in physical size--have added spas and services to suit all the needs of their unique guests. These vacationers can also enjoy golf, tennis, sailing, diving and other diverse recreation. Baja truly has it all. “The California Rivera” as is it called has grown to rival other popular resort destinations and is attractive to value minded travelers who want luxury at a savings.
There are signs that Americans are stressed out and require downtime and while the hospitality industry suffered greatly after the events of 9/11, top ranked resorts still commanded growth as did the entire timeshare industry from a recent survey by ARDA.
Many timeshare owners expect to purchase additional timeshare weeks and a growing trend is staying closer to home where Americans feel safer. These resorts are poised to draw this affluent market, according to Peter Yesawich, president and chief executive of Yesawich, Pepperdine, Brown and Russell, a Florida marketing and consulting firm that analyzes travel trends.
"Just because you have a high net worth doesn't mean you want to overpay," Yesawich said at a recent travel industry conference.
